Der Raum
My somewhat wiser (and generally married) friends tell me that remaining slightly mysterious, keeps the girls interested.
And for me, as a bit of an open book, its advice that could be misplaced.
Der Raum however, remains a venue of some mystery.
A sensational place for a quiet intimate chat, a first stop for a date or just as the imbibing equivalent of a culinary feast.
Helped along by a team of creative barman who must spend their waking hours dreaming up delicious yet evil blends of obscure ingredients, it is right on the mark when delivering a taste sensation experience.
Even their cocktail guide is chained to the bar, just to stop people from stealing it and mixing their own!
Décor wise, it’s fairly uninspiring (apart from the quirky idea of hanging most of the bottles by bungy cord from the ceiling) but it’s the exuberance, knowledge and creativity of the bar staff when applied to broadening our drinking experience, that has made this bar one of world renown.
And for doing so, it has received numerous acknowledgements and awards.
Often has been the time when I have brought friends to try something new at Der Raum.
Most have little knowledge of this obscure establishment but all are overwhelmed with their taste bud (and alcohol fuelled) experience.
Luckily for me, it’s fairly local so it’s easy to visit, often.
Whatever you’re putting in those drinks, Der Raum, keep them coming!! We love you!!
